People affected by addictive behaviors of loved ones – co-addicts

Being in a close relationship with someone who engages in (self) destructive addictive behaviors, can be a frustrating, painful and sometimes lonely journey, in which it is easy to lose oneself. It is common to develop a variety of unhelpful habits in response to the addiction: nagging, pleading, threatening, self-medicating with food or other substances, weak or non-existent boundaries. It is crucial to fully understand the limitations of what they can do, to free ourselves up from guilt and to be able to, at least to some extent,  to get off that continuous rollercoaster.

During sessions with Matt, we will take a look at some of their habitual responses to their Loved Ones. We will explore whether they are helpful or not, and will provide tools as well as a new perspective for making changes.

We work on finding ways to restore emotional and behavioral balance in your life so that you can calmly and effectively deal with the challenges you face. Clients will learn to better come with stress and uncertainty, as well as to establish healthier relationships with their loved ones.

“Ultimately there is no better treatment for individuals with addictive behaviors than learning…It rewires the brain; gives purpose, excitement, and feeling of being in control; feeling of accomplishment and commitment.”

— Matt

How the sessions usually look like?

Online sessions that focus on addictive behaviors and issues co-occurring are well-structured with a rather directive style. They are followed by regular assignments that give invaluable insight into the thought and emotion processes occurring between sessions. After meeting tasks also reinforce planned behavior modifications. Also, the various inspiring reading & listening materials are suggested.

From time to time, if there’s such need and willingness we will include a family member or partner. Such a joint session proves out to be very useful and practical.

That all helps maintain motivation and boost the recovery process.
